We are devastated that our landlord, Borde Hill, has given us notice to vacate in order to turn the Gallery building into office space for its staff.



So, after 15 years, our doors will sadly close for the final time on Saturday 15 April (open 11.30 am – 5 pm), when we are inviting everyone to come and say farewell to our little gem of a gallery!

Summer at the Gallery

The Gallery is full of the vibrant colours of summer, bursting with work from exciting new artists and from our regular artists too. As well as the stunning art, you’ll also find a treasure trove of unique gifts (from £5), toys and cards, making us the perfect place to find that perfect present! Jill & Sam offer you a warm welcome in a lovely, relaxed environment – and are on hand with help if you need it!

Annual Art Sale

After our annual spring clean and redecoration, we will re-open at 11.30 on Saturday 19 February for our Annual Art Sale.
This is a great opportunity for you to pick up fabulous artwork at bargain prices after our artists and makers have cleared out their studios ready for the start of the new year!

As part of the Christmas Market, the Gallery will be offering a warm welcome to visitors with a glass of Prosecco and a mince pie! Come and enjoy a spot of festive shopping from our vast and ever-changing array of original Christmas present ideas – everything from affordable local art to decorations, cards, stocking fillers and toys.

Our well-known neighbour and restaurateur, Jeremy Ashpool, has selected a variety of stalls to showcase local food and drink produce, plus street food traders for snacks and lunches on the go!

If the weather is good, Borde Hill Garden will be open for winter walks, as well as its shop and marquee for other gifts.

Entry to the Christmas Market is FREE. Pre-booking is not required.

Our Alternative Black Friday/Cyber Saturday!

Come and enjoy the feelgood factor of knowing that any Gallery purchases on the Black Friday/Cyber Saturday weekend will be benefitting our local community!

We will be donating 10% of Gallery takings on both days to our vital local Foodbanks to help tackle continuing food poverty and hunger in our area.

Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year!

Regular Gallery artist Jo Myles was one of 36 artists selected from 10,000 applicants to appear in this year’s series of Sky Arts’ popular TV programme! This painting, that won Jo her place in the competition, and her other recent works are all on display and available to buy exclusively at the Gallery. Jo’s episode aired on Wednesday 17th February on Sky Arts (or via Freeview channel 11).

We’re working our way through the Government’s latest Covid-19 Guidance and aim to re-open the Gallery on Thursday 18 June. Initially we plan to open Thursday to Saturday only (12pm – 5pm) or by appointment but will review once we’re up and running!

Join us at Cuckfield’s local market in the courtyard of the Talbot pub, where we’re hosting a table with Sussex children’s hospice, Chestnut Tree House. As well as biscuit decorating, we’ll have children’s toys and CDs with all proceeds to the hospice. At the market’s other stalls, you’ll find Sussex honey, chocolates, hand-tied flowers, meze dips, cheese, fresh fish, cakes, bread, scotch eggs, pies and fresh meat. Come and find out what a wonderful place our county’s only children’s hospice is and pick up a few deli treats for the weekend at the same time!

The Annual Art Sale is the traditional start to the Gallery’s year when our regular artists clear out their studios and sell off their work at greatly reduced prices. With paintings, sculptures, glass work, jewellery, ceramics, and much more on offer, you are sure to unearth a bargain to take home with you! The Sale marks the start of the Gallery’s support in 2018 of Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. The Gallery will donate 10% of takings on the opening day of the Sale to the Hospice.

Kick off the festive season with our annual Early Birds Christmas coffee “morning”. There will be delicious home-made cakes and biscuits served all day, together with freshly brewed coffee and tea. We’re opening early, so you can pop in after the school run or on your way to work!

Sculpture in the Gallery

The Gallery is delighted to again be part of Borde Hill Garden’s Annual Sculpture Exhibition. We will be exhibiting the work of over a dozen artists, including four of the main Garden exhibitors, and are part of the Garden’s Sculpture Trail which winds its way around the historic site and is a popular activity for both adults and children. The sculptures on display at the Gallery are on a smaller scale and suitable for a domestic setting, and are in a broad range of materials from iron, stone and wood to ceramic, resin, wire and glass.

To Linger in a Garden Fair

“To Linger in a Garden Fair” may have been penned by the 14th century Persian poet Hafiz, but to us it perfectly describes the delicious anticipation of enjoying the garden after a long winter. This is an exhibition devoted to one of Britain’s most popular pastimes, featuring work in a variety of media.

St. Peter & St. James Hospice Coffee Morning

The Gallery will be hosting a coffee morning to support St. Peter & St. James Hospice. We will have a selection of mouthwatering baked goods, and fresh coffee and tea on hand. Of Furred and Gentle Beasts

An exhibition of work by ceramic sculptor Victoria Lovell, which reflects her great empathy with animals. Whatever creature she turns her hand to,Victoria produces not just the likeness but the spirit of her subject. One feels the nervousness of her hares, the trustfulness of her dogs and the arrogance of her chickens! This exhibition gives her the opportunity to further explore the animal kingdom.
