Mary
realises that she has been hooked on painting for over 30 years, and
is relishing the thought of retiring from the NHS to free up more
creative time. The absorption, challenge and sheer joy of painting
have carried her through life’s peaks and troughs, and she has shared
many happy times with her Mum on art courses and joint exhibitions.
She was inspired to use pastels by Christopher Assheton-Stones who was
a wonderful tutor and leading light in The Pastel Society.
Mary has a
passion for colour, and interprets landscape, sea and flowers in many
different ways…maybe in an atmospheric, geometric or abstracted style,
always exploring new ideas.
She has
exhibited widely with The Pastel Society, and as a former member of
The Sussex Artists. In her home town of Salisbury, she has shown her
work at the Playhouse, the Library, the Hospital and the Cathedral.
She has won many commendations and was awarded The Edwin Young Trophy.
Pastels are
pure pigments, bound with a little gum tragacanth, and therefore
remain durable and colourfast under glass without cracking or fading.
Mary uses a multilayered approach on Fine artist quality sandpaper,
sometimes with an acrylic base.
