Paintings: Jules Middleton: Artist Statement

back

Jules is a thirty something mother of three, but with a passion for her artwork. Brought up in Hurstpierpoint she settled in Bolney with her husband and children in 2006. As well as running the gallery her work is fitted around various household chores, potty training and wiping noses!

She went back to painting whilst pregnant with her second child in 2003, after a break of some years whilst attempting to work in the ‘real world’ in the museum industry. However, art has always been her passion and she studied art & design at Northbrook College in Horsham and has a degree in the History of Art from the University of Sussex.

She spent some time travelling, what she would call ‘broadening her horizons’, much of which gives her inspiration in her current work, which can be seen in her passionate use of colour.

Jules enjoys producing pieces that are both eye catching and interesting. She likes to experiment with abstract ideas whilst still retaining the essence of an object or scene. She works in a mostly abstract style with inks and watercolours and paints a variety of themes including landscapes and natural forms.

She has recently begun producing collages as well as paintings, which feature an idealised ‘country living’ theme.

Jules now exhibits her work regularly, both in galleries and exhibitions and also in various ‘open studio’ events. Her work is currently on display in the Bay Tree Café in Haywards Heath and the Tiny Shoe Company in Hurstpierpoint.
