Paintings: Amy Williams
Amy
Williams was brought up in Lancashire and studied a degree in fine art
at ‘Norwich School of Art and Design’. After graduating in 2000 she
has been primarily concerned with painting. Amy is inspired by the
animal kingdom taking joy in the wide array of textures, forms and
colours. In each painting Amy tries to capture the individual
character of each animal. Humour is an important part of her work
whether it’s the shake of a duck’s rump or the glint in a cow’s eye.
Amy was initially drawn to painting cows ‘They have a fantastic bony
structure that contrasts beautifully with their curving form’. Her
ancestors were cattle breeders in Scotland and bred the ‘Belted
Galloway’, so perhaps it is not a coincidence that cows remain her
favourite subject. The chosen medium of ink and charcoal allows Amy
the freedom to be spontaneous utilising the way the ink splatters and
drips.
