Fair Trade: What is it?

back

We take a strong ethical stance in the way we run the gallery. Within this we feel it is important to support Fair Trade producers and have therefore decided to stock a range of Fair Trade products. These all come from recognised Fair Trade importers.

We have chosen things that we feel fit in with our gallery ethos, for example everything is hand made by skilled craftsmen and women and using traditional skills. We hope to expand this range over the coming months, so do come back to see what we have added!

Fair Trade: What does it mean to you?

There are many imported goods available for sale in this country and not all are fair trade. If you buy something that is labeled 'fair trade' you can be sure that it has been produced and imported in a way that is fair to the maker. For example: suppliers are paid a decent wage for their work; working conditions are safe and in good condition; and no children are exploited. There are various organisations that ensure that products labeled as fair trade are being produced to the correct standards and regulations. For example: BAFTS: The British Association of Fair Trade Shops.
