The Green Tree Gallery was set up in 2008 by a painter and a sculptor who were looking to provide a space in which they and other local artists and craftspeople could exhibit and sell their work. They leased the old Millbrook Nursery building from the Borde Hill Estate and transformed it into a Gallery in a beautiful setting and with a peaceful atmosphere in which customers could enjoy the art at their leisure. Since then, other artists have also become involved, helping to run the gallery as a cooperative in return for the opportunity to display their work.
In 2014, prompted by the retirement of two of its original partners the Gallery was turned into a limited company by Victoria Lovell (Clay Artist), Jill Housby, Samantha Phillips and Debbie Medlicott (who all work in textiles). The Green Tree Gallery is currently run by Victoria, Samantha and Jill.
The Gallery’s original purpose remains: To exhibit unique and affordable work by local artists and craftspeople, providing them with a physical shop window in an increasingly internet-driven world. We also sell an ever-changing selection of carefully chosen giftware, cards and toys, the majority of which we buy from British designers and makers.
When you buy a piece of original artwork here, you are supporting the Gallery as well as the artist. With so many galleries closing down because of the increase in on-line selling, shop windows like ours, where customers can experience the art at first hand, are becoming rare. We believe that we offer our customers a unique shopping experience in a beautiful, tranquil and convenient setting.
Thank you for your support.
